keep a program running during sleep?

i just got a new laptop and it has vista obviously, but so did my ol
one and i could decide which programs (such as AIM) would stay runnin
when my computer was in sleep mode, but now i don't remember how to d
that

Programs do NOT run when the computer is sleeping. A program that is running
when the computer is put to sleep will again be running when you wake the
computer - but it wasn't running when the computer was asleep. That would
defeat the purpose of sleep which is to place the computer in a suspended
state (with zero activity) from which it can quickly recover.

Perhaps you really mean something else!
