just feel like sharing. i'm on my second system with vista. the first one
was an upgrade. if you have a powerfull enough computer it's my opion that
there is no reason to upgrade, as it appeared that win 7 is just a pared
down version of vista. also i don't want to go onto any cloud platforms to
retain some of the services i already have. just my thoughts. jude

Waher:

I don't know about "pared down".

I just inspected a Sony machine in a Sony shop. With Windows 7 I was able to
touch the desktop screen and perform all kinds of functions. For instance,
there was this Microsoft World Map which is way better than Google Earth. I
was able to look at places on the map and use my fingers on the screen to
enlarge the picture and come in close to my own home, which displayed as a
photograph. The program isn't new, but the ability to enlarge the picture was
like an iPhone 3G only better.

Using the MS Word 2007 program I was able to write words on the screen with
my finger and see them immediately converted into printed words on the
screen. Now these are just samples of the sort of thing you can do with
Windows 7. Don't take my word for it. Go into a store and check for yourself.
Naturally the touch screen models are more expensive than those without such
technology. But the point is Windows 7 is a huge advance on Vista.

Addressing the "pared down" issue, MS has smartly avoided the problems it
has had with both XP and with Vista regarding charges that it is engaging in
monopolistic practices, like having Media programs and such integrated in the
package. In the US and in the European Union they have faced a decade of
monopoly-busting legal actions by their competition. Okay, they said: this
time we won't include these add-ons. BUT (they said) you can add them on for
free by downloading them later on.

The technical term is: He's an asshole.

Cloud computing? You mean giving up things like Windows Mail and Photo
Gallery and having to use things like Windows Essentials (Live) to get them
back?

I've been using Vista since day one and never really used it to the full
capacity I found out. In 3 days I upgraded memory for about $40, found 10
or more different cool features in Vista that I knew nothing about and now I
feel like I have a brand new computer. I did this all due to the hype I've
read about Windows7 and I was about to upgrade, but realized I never really
used Vista in order to be able to truly see any big difference. Thanks
Windows7! I just saved myself some money (by not upgrading to 7) and I'm
really happy with Vista. I'm sure Windows7 is great, but I'll stay where I
am for now.

Matt, not a bad move because MS have improved Vista a lot since it first
came out, and see those features you found will be available for 7 they
are just not crammed into the system to lie undiscovered, I mean how
useful are they to you if you were not using them ???

7 Is faster and leaner and in my view follows a logical development
path, you will like it as much but no harm in staying where you are for now.

Count me in----I'm current with all the upgrades and everything is working
just fine. Not to sure what is meant by windows 7 is "faster and leaner".
The only thing that qualifies as slow on my system is the initial boot up
and when I close the machine down; since that is an infrequent occurrence
it's not an issue. Could be that I am not a power user and obviously don't
push the system to its limits.
