Keeps showing me updates I already have

In the past, the Microsoft Update site only showed me updates I really
needed. The other day I had to reinstall XP from original recovery discs for
my Sony VAIO. Now when I go to get updates, the site shows me all the same
updates I already installed, and if I try to install them because I forgot I
already have them, it will say the install failed. How can I get the update
site to only show me the ones I really need?

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3) when posting to
this newsgroup, please.

Chances are that none of the updates have ever installed successfully. Try
Methods 1 & 2, if necessary, in...

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
