Keyboard Performance

I type about 40 words per minute, but when typing on my home computer it does
not enter all the keys that I hit. It is no particular key but more like
there is a micro-second stall in the computer somehow that prevent the
keyboard stroke from being recognized. I notice it most while using internet
explorer probably because that is what I use most, but have had it happen
while using other programs. After typing a page or so, I look to the screen
to find a dozen or so misspelled words due to this problem. I have Windows
Vista as the operating system. HELP!!!!!!!

Delays in typing are usually caused by too many programs/processes running
in the background. Since you didn't provide any of your computer specs (how
much RAM?*), I can only suggest that you try a clean boot and test your
typing. If all is well, add back one startup item at a time until you find
the culprit/answer.

*Vista should have at least 2GB of RAM to run smoothly.

Malke, I have 894 mb of ram which leads me to think that is the problem
because of your post????

Your actualy in luck if you have a bus port. vista has the capability of
using a special flash drive that will boost your RAM by 2 GB. This way you
don't have to crack open your machine or find memory sticks that will work on
your machine. Go to radio shack and look for a ScanDisk (brand) Cruzer Micro
USB 2.0 Flash drive at the bottom left of thepackage it will say "Enhanced
for Windows ReadyBoost" plug it in to your USB port and Vista wil guide you
the rest of the way. About $20.00 cheaper and much simpler then the

I take it you meant USB port. But not really - it doesn't boost the RAM by
2GB at all. To be more specific, it uses the memory stick as a disk cache,
which helps speed up disk operations and release some RAM for other
processes.

The difference it makes is marginal, but maybe worth it if you're struggling
for RAM, as the OP is.

H S Apley: running Vista with 894M is definitely a bit marginal. You would
get a much better experience if your PC had more memory. I would seriously
consider getting it upgraded.

Meanwhile, I'm not convinced that this is the cause of your problem anyway.
Keyboard strokes are buffered, so even when your CPU is away doing other
things, it shouldn't lose keystrokes. Normally when the system is heavily
loaded you might see the odd pause on the screen, and then the letters
you've typed all appear in a rush.

It might be worth borrowing another keyboard to try, especially if yours is
a wireless one, as they can be less reliable.

I'm hoping others might join in who've had this experience themselves.

I'm not Malke, but I'll throw my two cents in anyway, if you don't
mind.

You have 1GB of RAM and no video card. Instead of a video card, you
have video support on the motherboard, and that video support is using
128MB of your system RAM, reducing what's available to 894MB.

For most people, 1GB of RAM is insufficient for decent performance
with Vista; 894MB is even worse. As Malke said below, I strongly
recommend that you upgrade to 2GB (which will leave you 1920MB
usable).

What Ken and the others said. Yes, increase your RAM if you can. You will
see a marked improvement. It doesn't hurt to streamline your startup
anyway, but you definitely need more RAM.

Just out of interest, what are you typing into Internet Explorer that needs several pages of text ?
