Keyboard problem with num lock

I have a passpwrd protected sign-on in Windows XP (adminstrator rights), and I also allow a guest sign-on without passwords. The num lock which allows use of the 10-key pad works for the guest sign-on, but is completely disabled for the administrator sign-on. I have tried to run diagnostics, but everything appears to be working correctly. Has anyone ever seen this problem, and how can I fix it?
