Using WLM 2009 on XP Pro SP3. Sometimes I need to use the full window when
viewing a message so I hit Enter when a particular message is highlighted.
But I can't advance to a reply to that message unless the original message
thread is expanded. Then I can use Alt_Right Arrow to go to the next
message. And Alt_Left Arrow to go back. Is there a shortcut that I can use
so I can go to the next reply without having to expand the original message
thread?

Why not always leave the thread expanded?

[check] Automatically expand grouped messages
(in Options, Read tab; Alt-T,O,Ctrl-Tab,x)

Alternatively, if you normally want all threads contracted
provided there is an unread message in one you can
get to it and thus open the thread by using Next Unread
(e.g. press Ctrl-u or the equivalent toolbar button.)

Because then the message list will be about 10 times as long!

I think the correct term you're looking for is collapsed, not contracted.

Wow - Control U is the ticket! Many, many thanks. That is just great!
Works perfect.

Not at all. Collapsed for me denotes less control and less
ability of reversal. It's also less of an antonym for expanded,
unless you're considering the thread empty, like an air bag. ; )

Hi, Inter Hagel.

Agreed! And, if you have a programmable mouse button, set that to <Ctrl>+U.

My Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 has two extra buttons plus the
clickable scroll wheel. I've set one button to <Ctrl>+U, Next unread
message; the other button is <Ctrl>+J, Next unread folder; and the scroll
wheel button is <Ctrl>+H, Show replies to my messages. Sure makes it easier
to work my way through the dozens of newsgroups that I follow daily. ;<)

Robert prefers keystrokes and is an expert at them. I'm more comfy with the
mouse. You can take your choice. ;<)

Computer terminology doesn't always follow logical English meanings.
'Collapsed' has historically been used in the computer world to denote
the opposite of 'expanded'.
