There was a keystroke combination in XP that put the
unit in STANDBY - is there something like that in Vista?

Hi,

Standard keyboard shortcuts for Windows haven't changed since Win95, except
maybe for the addition of winkey+tab in Vista. See:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449

If your former system had a keycombo for standby, it was likely either
specific to that machine or to the keyboard's supporting software.

you can change the behavior of your power button to put the unit to sleep
rather than shut down.
