Give it a chance to break itself in. For a while, for instance, it will be
indexing which takes resources. You can speed up the desktop by removing
the "Highlight newly installed programs" feature. Right-click the Windows
logo and select Properties. Then select the Customize button on the Start
menu tab and locate that item and uncheck it and click OK.
There are many other things that you can do to speed up Vista depending on
your setup. Post on a Vista forum for help and some useful tutorials.

I use both Vista and XP and find Vista much faster, although in my case both
are pretty fast.
