You will probably find there are no XP drivers written for your new laptop.
So, no XP install available.
Check at Maker's site.
Some Makers have/had downgrade rights from Vista Business and Ultimate to XP

Yes nice idea except for many drivers will likely be missing. Plus the
thing is a beeyatch for most clueless Windows newbies to install; like
getting wireless to work can be next to impossible.

Setting up repositories; how many Windows users are familiar with that?

Missing drivers for peripherals: printers, scanners, MFD's of all sorts.

And if you've got proggies or games that require Windows to run, UR
hosed. And Wine ain't no good answer since it's so limited.

Linux just ain't ready for the Windows desktop user base as a substitute.

Give it a chance to break itself in. For a while, for instance, it will be
indexing which takes resources. You can speed up the desktop by removing
the "Highlight newly installed programs" feature. Right-click the Windows
logo and select Properties. Then select the Customize button on the Start
menu tab and locate that item and uncheck it and click OK.

There are many other things that you can do to speed up Vista depending on
your setup. Post on a Vista forum for help and some useful tutorials.

I use both Vista and XP and find Vista much faster, although in my case both
are pretty fast.

It's obvious you haven't checked out Ubuntu lately and still believe the
FUD from years ago. Try to get up-to-date before you put your foot in
your mouth again.

No, he isn't.

Never had a problem with it.

Never got a headache either. My Ubuntu installs just work out of the
box, don't crash and are as solid as a rock.

I personally prefer XP for its ease of use.
Windows flunked when they made vista

Sure, sure it works outta the box (what box ?)

Real software like Vista, Office come in a box.
