I can't help wonder what kind of person spends what is clearly hours
and hours in this forum for what appears to be no other reason then to
endless **** on Microsoft in general and Vista in particular. If they
hate both so much why aren't they out shopping for a MAC so they can
get on with their life?

I have actually had less trouble getting my new Vista Machine up and
running then I did with my Old machine when XP was new and so was the
old machine.

They're called "trolls," and they apparently have a great deal of time
on their hands.

Maybe they already have a PC or can't afford a MAC - in which case the
obvious alternative would be Linux.

That's cool. Obviously lots of folks here are having somewhat more
difficulty than you did.

So I guess we can put your down for the Microsoft can **** on me all
they want club while charging inflated prices for buggy software that
fails to work as advertised, likely tinkers with my hardware slowing
it down to bow to Hollywood's DRM scheme, prevents me from making
"legal" backup copies of music or video I paid for and on top of all
that sticks the intrustive UAC nag screens in your way for even things
like trying to delete a shortcut off your desktop and laughing all the
way to the bank because of rubes like you that just shrug their
shoulders and say oh so what, get used to it.

I just want Microsoft to learn this is MY computer, not their
computer. Think that is too much to expect considering I paid for it?

Sure Frank, you being one of the dummies I routinely hit over the head
for your shallow views and obvious misconceptions, you go right on
thinking everybody that stands up to Microsoft and points out some of
what they get away with in their questionable business prqctices and
strange bowing to Hollywood's wishes and sloppy programming skills is
always a Mac or Linux troll. Ignorance is bliss, keep snoozing Frank,
the world will just pass you by and never even notice you're alive.

Ah, but here's an interesting twist: Those Mac users who bought the Intel
machines are trying Windows XP and even Vista with a host of different
results. Yeah, some whine and gripe about it because they're

A) not paying attention to the instructions, or
B) forgetting that the tools are still a beta (Boot Camp, VMWare Fusion), or
C) experiencing real hardware problems that do need a fix, but they are
simply impatient and love to gripe anyway.

The Windows-on-Mac phenomenon has largely been a good thing for Apple, as
their machines can now compete head-on with the best in the Windows
universe. Those who try it and succeed love the flexibility they have of
running most anything,. Yet they spend much more time in the Mac OS because
they find it less stressful to work with.

I should know. I have a Mac running Vista on the side, and I haven't had a
lot of problems with their latest Boot Camp so far. I spend a lot of time
trying to help interested Apple users bridge the gap between their world
and Windows. This from a man who wants to find balance between a life spent
troubleshooting thousands of problematic Windows machines and a quiet life
as a writer on a Mac. Go figure.

Playing devil's advocate for a bit here, and being a new Vista user, I can
see what some of
the '****ings' about. You would think that with each new upgrade, things
would get better/easier.
Not so with Vista from my short experience. Constant warning messages, not
to mention the lack of support
for practically all of my hardware (I know, a vendor problem, but really...)
Even with my old XP pro, I swear there isn't a day goes by that something
that used to work yesterday,
does not work today. The last time this happened, the culprit was the
result of an automatically downloaded
MS Security update. I had to scour Google for a fix to this 'fix'.
Sometimes you just need a place to vent. I"ve been PCing since day 1 with
MS stuff, and for the first
time I am very seriously thinking of trying Linux. It can't be worse; can
it?

Some of us are genuinely having a lot of problems with Vista, and are asking
for help.

Get a life!
Do you honestly think you're going to change one of the most lucrative
businesses in the world by whining publicly in a newsgroup about having
spent too much on a product you don't like?

Try the Better Business Bureau, a lawyer, or better yet, the store where you
bought it.
Next time, don't buy until you know. If everyone followed that practice, the
business would change overnight.
