klipsch 2.1 pro media sub woofer not working w/vista

hello,
my klipsch sub woofer will not work with my laptop (Vista). the satellite
speakers work, but no bass.
the sub works fine when hooked up to my desktop. (xp)
klipsch are plug n play, no software or drivers.
gateway claims since the laptop speakers and headphones work, it's not their
problem.
any information will be greatly appreciated,

Your headphones and laptop speakers are 2 channel/stereo and have no 3rd
channel. The subwoofer is the third channel so will not work when feeding a
2 channel audio output through a 3 channel speaker system... not a problem
with vista.
Your desktop PC probably has a better soundcard, built-in or added to the
system. To get the bass to work you will probably have to buy an external
sound card for your laptop.
