Where can I look up what version of Windows XP, IE6 or Office I have
got on my PC?

The links on
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;164539
seem out of date.

I want to start with my version number of, say, IE which is
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.040919.1003
and then check if it is the latest version.

Windows: Right click My Computer and choose Properties.
Other Programs: Help | About in the program.

Does the computer have a broadband or 56k modem connection?

Hope this helps.

Well Gerry, it confuses me too. Zarbol's op asked "Where can I look up what
version of Windows XP, IE6 or Office I have
got on my PC?"

What does it matter what type of internet connection Zarbol has if he wants
to know the levels of Windows XP, IE6 or Office in his/her original post?

The Windows and Office update sites automatically check whether they are
fully up to date. If you only have a 56k modem you can get more than you
would like making it pointless to check that way.

Gerry - thanks for the reply. I'm still confused, but in this case, I'm
giving up. Originally, I read the poster to say "Where can I look
up what version of Windows XP, IE6 or Office I have got on my PC?" - I still
don't see what your reply has go to do with that question - he was, I
thought, asking how to find the release or maintenance level, not how long
any fixes would take from downloading which is what only possible
correlation your answer, IMHO, would have. But he was simply asking for a
piece of information, so I originally thought....

But then on rereading his original question, he ALSO said, "I want to start
with my version number of, say, IE which is 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.040919.1003
and then check if it is the latest version." = Well, if he knows it is
"6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.040919.1003", why would he ask what how to find the
level out, since he obviously already knows??!!

So I give up. I'm really confused on this one for more sides than one!

to check on version, just click Help --> About from the applications toolba
(whether is is office, or IE)
for windows, go to start | control panel | System
