When I click on the Advanced tab in my Local Area Connection properties
I see the following message:
"Windows cannot display the properties of this connection. The Windows
Management Instrumentation (WMI) information might be corrupted. To
correct this, use System Restore to restore Windows to an earlier time
(called a restore point). System Restore is located in the System Tools
folder in Accessories."
This seems to have started about the time I upgraded Windows XP
Professional to SP2. As far as I can tell, everything is working
otherwise. My XP firewall is on. I cannot correct this issue by doing a
System Restore.
Should I worry about this? If so, how can I fix it? I did a Google
search and saw an old (September 2003) post saying to stop the WMI
Service and then delete everything in the
%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository folder. The deleted files would
reportedly be regenerated upon reboot. I am reluctant try this based
on this one post, particularly since the author said he had not
actually tried this fix. Any advice would be appreciated.
