I often help people using remote assistant but when the person has another
language version of Messenger (in this case french), the other computer
cannot connect. I had encountered this situation before but I had another
computer with the french version of Messenger and operating system and I got
a connection. Is there a way around so remote assistant will work no matter
what the language of the operating system seeking assistance.
Thanks

Greetings Frank,

I admit I've not had that much experience with Remote Assistance in terms of localization,
but I know I have connected with others on different language versions in the past (Dutch I
believe).

Given your results, I don't really believe that the language version is the problem, as its
more likely that the person is simply using a third-party software firewall, non-UPnP router,
or their ISP uses a hardware firewall or NAT (in other words, a non-direct connection) and
therefore Remote Assistance can't connect.

What you might try instead, is using Live SharedView, although you'll probably want to give
it a go on your own so you can guide your contacts through it, it'll provide similar
functionality and works in a wider array of networking scenarios:

I do note however that SharedView is only available in English at the moment as that might be
a consideration.

I hold RA sessions with persons runing localized version Of Windows
OSs(Japanese or Spanish).

My understanding based on the brief descriptions at the download website
is that the SharedView allows its host to show his desktop those at
remote location who join the session via the Internet. My question here
is if those who join the session can participate in activities on the
host's computer instead of merely viewing them.

Hi,

Yes, you can "take control". I use this all the time.

Does that mean that a person who need help has to host ShareView if it
is used in place of RA? I assume here that a person who host the
ShareView can not "take control" of the session participants' PCs.

Hi,

Nope, either side can initiate the session and either side share. That's another advantage.

Hi,

Sound great. I will try it instead of asking question bits and pieces.

I am trying SharedView now. So far I tried sharing Desktop and Handouts
which worked. I want to try taking control of remote machine but
"Request Control" button is missing which is supposed to be in
"Microsoft SharedView(beta) - Viewing Window". The Viewing Window is
missing from GUI of my SharedView. What could be wrong? All I see in
the GUI are "Participants", Handouts", "Share" and "Type a message to
all participants".

The Request Control button is in the actual window being shared -- it's not in the main
toolbar.
