so my brother has a acer aspire 9400 lap top with vista home premium
and for no reason it just switches itself off.

once with a blue screen saying dumping physical memory.

is it because my brothers lap top 2GB ram or graphics card cant handl
the amount he is using lap top? or maybe leaving the lap top plugge
into the charger 24/7 is doing this

How exactly is he using the laptop. I had an uncle complain that his HP
kept shutting down. When I asked him to show me what he was doing when it
shut down, he actually had it resting on his legs while he was in a
recliner. His legs covered the vent holes in the bottom. It overheated. I
told him to get a small piece of plywood (the same size as the laptop) and
put it beneath it when he had it in his lap. Guess what - no more
shutdowns.

I have a Averatec that overheats when sitting on its manufacturer provided
feet while resting on a table if I run a lot of intensive work at the same
time. I have to use a supplemental cooler fan under it.

What I am trying to say is to check for heat buildup in the laptop. Make
sure that all vent holes are open and clear of junk. If you can see any
fans within the vent holes look at them for junk buildup on the blades, etc.

really? so just by having it on your lap? well he does have it on hi
lap also and using forums/mirc/msn and rlc some 3d chat thing.

i always thought its either from leaving it chargeing 24/7 did it so i
was over charging or from not enough memory doing to much or leaving la
top on to many hours per day.

so tleaving lap top to charge 24/7 doesent do bad

I should add that the laptop is not charging all the time. Once it reaches
the required charge level, it stops charging.

Sure. Most of the time shutdown and blue screen problems are related to
hardware failure or overheating. Your laptop can't breathe if you suffocate
it by covering its "nostrils". Heat can't get out and keeps building in the
laptop. At some point it'll give up... that's when you see blue screen or
unexpected shutdown/turn off.

The 2GB is not causing the problem so stop bringing it up.

Then why call it a "lap"top? If it has to sit on a flat
surface it's just a light weight tabletop computer
