Laptop screen changes when plugged into projector

When I plug my laptop into a projector, the viewable screen size suddenly
shrinks. How do I stop this happening please? I want to switch between
PowerPoint and Word programmes when plugged in, and this shrinking is very
annoying.

The projector's max resolution is likely to be lower than your laptop
screen, so there is nothing you can do about this. Just to confirm, what
model projector do you have, and what resolution is your laptop screen?

Thank you SS. My screen res is 1366 x 768. But it happens whatever
projector I plug it into. This never happened on my laptop with XP, so why
should it happen here? Why should the visual area of my screen shrink?

Did your XP laptop have a 1024x768 (XGA) screen? Are you using XGA
projectors?
