There is a white block that comes up on my screen every few minutes. I don't
know what it is. It's empty. It also comes up on the taskbar and it is
yellow and white there. I can close it out but it comes back in a few mins.
It's very annoying. I can't get rid of it because I don't know what it is
and it is completely blank (white). Can you help me. It appears that
something isn trying to open but I don't know what

Run System Restore to a time before the problem began.

Hi oogie,

Right click on a blank section of the task bar and select 'Task Manager'.
Select the 'Applications' tab. Wait until the white block reappears. An entry
should appear in the 'Task Manager'. Make a note of the name. Next, right
click on it and select 'Go To Process'. Make a note of the highlighted name.
Please post back with the above information.

It would appear then that the "white block" is being caused by a part
of your sound driver.

Have you tried downloading and installing updated drivers for your
sound card to se if that resolves your problem?

Hi oogie,

Thanks for the information. This file, 'audiodg.exe' is part of the Vista
operating system. The information that I have on this file is as follows:

File description Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation
Type Application
File version 6.0.6000.16386
Product name Microsoft Windows operating System
Product version 6.0.6000.16386
Copyright Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserv...
Size 86.0 KB
Date modified 02/11/2006 09:44
Language English (United States)

To find this information, click on the start orb and type 'audiodg.exe' into
the search box. In the 'Programs' section of the results panel, this program
will appear. Note that there should be only one result for this file. Right
click on the file and select 'Properties'. The 'audiodg Properties' dialogue
should open. Select the 'Details' tab and compare the values with the values
posted above. Assuming that you are not running SP1, any difference in any of
the values would indicate a corrupted file. Also check the file location. It
should be in the 'System32' folder. To do this, click on the start orb and
type 'audiodg.exe' into the search box and right click on the result as
before. This time, select 'Open file location'. Post back with the results of
your comparisons with the details here.

click on the taskbar. I have restored back before it started appearing but
it is still appearing.

Hi oogie,

Do you, by chance, happen to be using Norton/Symantec security on your
machine? This file, 'ALUSchedulerSvc.exe' (Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler
Service), is a harmless updater for Norton products. It is made by Symantec
who are a trusted company. However, if you don't have a Norton/Symantec
product on your machine, it could be malware.
