After installing the latest auto updates to XP, I trired to open an existing
excel worksheet by clicking on the file. Excel tied to open the file but hung
in a non operative state. I could not end the task, After 5 minutes I
finished up switching the power off to the computer.
After re-booting the PC I tried opening the worksheet in the same manner as
before and a message appeared saying that there is a problem with this file,
did I want to continue? I replied 'yes' and I got a MS error box stating
"unable to read file". I have tried this on several worksheets and I get the
same error message, "unable to read file".
I have recovered one of the files from my backup and on opening the file I
get the same error message.
I have created a new worsheet using excel, but when I try to open the
worksheet I get the same error message.
The software I have is Excel (2002 SP3 version).
I have re-installed Excel, the same error occurs.
Does any one have any ideas of how to correct the problem?
