I have a 2 month old HP Pavillion desktop. I am using Vista Home Premium with
an external hard drive attached to it over USB. I have completed a full file
system backup through the Vista Back up your PC section in the control panel.
This was done sucessfully. I scheduled an automatic incremental backup to be
saved weekly to the same external hard drive that the first full backup is
on. The mediaID.bin has been created and is located on the root of the
external drive. Unfortunately after the first full backup is created, the
incremental backups all have failed with the error "that the latest backup
set cannot be found- 0X8100000A". I can verify that the original backup is in
fact there and I can see the incremental backup has also been created, but
the error message still pops up. The option to "Try Again" is available in
the backup has failed error message. When I select that, the incremental
backup kicks on and starts backing up to the external drive and completes
successfully, but seems to create an additional full backup again, not an
incrementla one. It seems as though it's just not working in auto mode. I
have also tried different external hard drives without any success. I have
tried removing my shadow copies in the restore center as directed by the tech
support guy from HP, but no luck. I am at the point where I have restored the
PC from the backup partition once, and HP tech support wants me to do it
again. Since it didn't solve the problem originally, I don't want to do it
again as it's a pain getting everything back to the way I want it. If anyone
has any ideas I would greatly appreciate some advice as I think the support
HP is giving me is very lackluster to this point.

Thanks!
Mike

The "Your PC..." backup must be a proprietary HP backup system that is
independent of the Vista (Microsoft) restore system in the Backup and
Restore... control panel? Does the computer have a Backup and
Restore... Control Panel? Have you tried the Vista system?

Q thanks for the response. This is part of the Vista restore system in the
control panel. It's under System and Maintenance -> Back Up Your Computer ->
Back Up Files.

Hi Mike, my name is Sandia; I have a HP since about July and it's not been
bad with the Vista until now. I decided to backup the files manually instead
of automatically one time and now I get that set not found error code. I too
have the premium and I just don't know what to do, I've tried everything I
can think of and knowone seems to want to help.

My original bin backup and recovery disk are still there also but the
computer says it isn't and how do you argue with a computer? Very carefully
so people don't think you should be in the nut house.
I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you but at least you and I both know
we're not alone out there in error code land of the internet.
Good Luck and I hope you get it figured out soon.

Sandia,

I have since resolved this error and can now do automated backups. I found
the fix which worked for me:

Click “WinKey” on your keyboard.
Type “cmd” and hit Ctrl+Shift+Enter. That will bring you to the command
prompt in Administrator mode. It you still have UAC enabled, it will ask you
for permissions, click “OK”.
Navigate to your Vista system folder (i.e. C:\Windows\System32)
Type “fsutil resource setautoreset true C:” assuming that you have your
Vista on drive C.
Reboot.

I have to give credit to this guy at this site:

http://blogs.vertigo.com/personal/al...Post.aspx?ID=5

Let me know if it works.

Hi Mike,
I joined this forum quite late in the game but am having the same issue. I
am using an older keyboard so I cannot find a "WinKey". Is there another
option on an older keyboard?

My scheduled back up was working fine for over a year, and now it will not.
I am getting Backup did not complete successfully 0x8100000A The latest back
up set cannot be found...create a new full back up. I am not able to figure
out how to successfully create a new full back up nor restore the ability for
it to run auto backups at the scheduled time. I suspect when cleaning up
files I must have deleted something I needed. Do you know how to get me back
to square one?

I need small words and lots of details...I know just enough computereze to
be dangerous.

Thanks,
Cherrie
