Hello,
Im running Vista Home Premium 32-bit edition, and up until the 1/9 have had
no trouble with opening/using WMP11 when it would not open or run at all when
any of its icons were clicked. I checked to see if it had somehow
accidentally been deleted or uninstalled and it was still in Programs File. I
tried a system restore and this done the trick and WMP11 opened and run
normally. As soon as Windows Update auto-updated WMP11 stopped working
exactly as before and started to work again as soon as i done another system
restore.
Now i checked the update history and the last installed update at this point
was Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.21.2927.3)
Installation date: ‎31/‎08/‎2007 01:02
Installation status: Successful
As this seemed to be the problem i thought i had disabled automatic updating
but when i booted up my PC and tried using WMP11 today exactly the same
problem happened, no matter which icon i clicked to open WMP11 it would not
open as if it was not there.
I checked update history again and the following had been auto installed -
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.21.2929.8)
Installation date: ‎05/‎09/‎2007 02:24
Installation status: Successful
This is a newer definition than the first but im getting the same problem
with WMP11 as the earlier one. Once again i done a system restore and WMP11
worked normally again.
Please help with this. Am i right in thinking these Defender updates are
causing this problem or is it something else? I like to keep as clean a hard
drive as possible and dont want to install a different player as i have found
it to be alot of hassle in the past and i actually like WMP11
