Computer info:

HP a6300f
VISTA
1.5 years old
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00 GHz 2.00 GHz
2 GB RAM
32-Bit Operating System ...

MY PROBLEM IS THIS:

When Messenger 2009 first came out (sometime back) I downloaded it and
everything worked fine. Then one day ... the capability to see myself on the
video aspect of messenger chat just stopped. It showed a grayed out camera
with a big red X over it.

The camera - Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX - was still working as my
friend could still SEE me and HEAR me ... yet I could NOT SEE MYSELF. However
.... when using YAHOO MESSENGER video chat ... I could see myself just fine.
We like using Windows Live Messenger for video chatting as everything is in
one window and is somewhat easier to use.

I uninstalled and reinstalled both Messenger and my camera several times
CORRECTLY, but to no avail ... still BIG RED X and I could not see myself. I
then found version 8.1 of messenger online and downloaded it and could see
myself just fine. So I used that version for video chatting on Windows
Messenger.

I logged into Windows Live Messenger a few days ago and got the notification
that I needed to download the current version due to a vulnerability issue or
I COULD NOT CONTINUE TO USE MESSENGER.

So ... downloaded new version and the same thing happened again with camera
.... I could NOT SEE MYSELF on the video aspect, yet my friend could SEE and
HEAR me ... though my voice was a bit garbled they said.

I thought maybe a new camera might work (though the old one is only 1.5
years old) Got a new webcam ... Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 - installed it
today and it is INSTALLED CORRECTLY.

Also reinstalled the current version of Windows Live Messenger today the
20th of September 2009 ... (2009 - Build 14.0.8090.726) It is INSTALLED
CORRECTLY.

Tried video chatting with my friend this afternoon. They could see and hear
me just fine. Said my voice sounded great - not garbled. HOWEVER ... I STILL
CAN NOT SEE MYSELF. BIG RED X yet again.

I have tried everything that I know of to remedy this situation from many
uninstalls and reinstalls, to many hours of searching the internet for
answers, and many hours of aggravation ... PLUS the cost of a NEW CAMERA.

What is your suggestion??
