I, with the help of Microsoft and Micro Trend, figured out the problem. The
firewall in Micro Trend Internet Security 2006 was blocking access to my home
network by not allowing the computers to communicate with each other. The
computers were able to access the internet, but not to each other.
I'm not sure what update or updates would have affected this recent
blockage, but the solution was to uninstall Internet Security 2006, and
reinstall with a newer build, and only reinstalling the minimum virus
protection portion, leaving out the extra features, including the built in
firewall.
My home network is now functioning property as it was before the recent
updates.
