Latest Update Makes Viewer Programs Inoperable?

I downloaded the latest updates from Windows Update on the 16th. There were 4
updates. After they downloaded, a server viewer program that I have never had
problems with (Q3PX Server Viewer) would not work. Instead, I had a box with
a little red x. I uninstalled the updates, and it worked again. Then this
morning the updates installed without my permission, and the viewer stopped
working again. So I uninstalled it, and now it works again. This could
conceivably go on forever, lol, but is there something I can do? Is Microsoft
going to fix this?

I'm running XP SP2, I have absolutely no HP products installed on my
machine, and I'm running an ATI x800 video card. Two other people who also
use this viewer had the exact same problem, so there is a definite conflict.
None of us can download these updates now.

Thanks for any help!!

Turn off automatic updates, do the updates manually and uncheck KB
908531.

Leave auto updates off, they did not install without permission you
told MS to install whatever they like whenever they like on your PC
when you switched auto updates on. To get rid of the annoying pop ups
in the sys tray which will ensue.

Check manually 2nd Tuesday every month for new updates - 908531 should
be fixed by then.

Security worries then use Firefox until IE gets fixed properly.

Or you can follow Careys links and do the registry fix.

Yes I had same issue with the site i help run...www.the77clan.com in which i
have the q3px plugin on the main page displaying game servers...after reading
all this and trying everything i could not get it to work...so i had to
delete 912812 and reboot, and when it rebooted i told it not to install the
update again...i also looked as msdn and could not find any code that i could
add to my plugin.php (which displays q3px) file...anyway hope that they fix
it, although i am not too worried mos people that come to the site use
mozilla....
