Latest Windows Update

Yesterday's automatic update required a restart of my computer. I sign on
with a network password which won't work because I'm not connected to the
internet. I can't get into my computer. I no longer remember the password
for my computer since a change and use only my network password.

I have shut my computer off before and signed back in using my network
password before. why can't I do that this time? did this update affect my
ability to do that?
