Join the club. I was using MSWord as my Outlook editor, and Oulook hung every
time I tried to insert or attach to a message. My Word is borked as it won't
open from My Documents and won't Save As. Didn't Microsoft check this damned
update before sending it?

Review your settings for Automatic Updates. Set it to notify only.

There's a registry tweak that you can try to fix your current problem.
get this zip file & extract & run the reg file.

Thanks to Ottmar Freudenberger.

Do post back with your progress.

I'm having the same problem with my Digital Image 2006 as well as Front page
2003, and also can't use Windows Explorer on Windows 2000. I believe they're
all related to the security update for Windows Explorer. I was tempted to
simply uninstall this update, but I'm seeing cautions against it. Maurice
suggests a registry fix @ patch-info.de. Is this a trusted source?

Yes, Freudi is trusted. Before applying the reg file, you can use Notepad to view its contents.

Then read this recently posted MS article & do a comparison.
Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015

Maurice, thanks for pointing us in the right direction! I was going crazy for
two days! After viewing the Microsoft bulletin, I found the solution in the
article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165 I simply removed "HP Share
To Web" from my computer since I don't use it anyway, and it solved the
problem completely. If you prefer to keep this software installed, then you
can use the registry fix that Maurice suggests.

Hello, I have almost the same problem.. and I cannot figure out how to even
ask the question. The only thing this is letting me do is repsond to you.
The last 5 updates that came over on April 14 has destroyed my Word, Excel
and Publisher. They open, then when I try to "save" a file, it hangs and
then I have to "end task" to get out. Never saves my documents. I need a
FIX ASAP...and tomorrow is Easter. When you get a fix, since you were able
to post your question,, will you send it to me also? OR forward this on for
me? Thanks so much. Lori

I uninstalled the six updates that occured on April 14 and installed them one
at a time. Windows XP (KB908531) is the culprit that causes Digital Image Pro
to not work properly. I am going to the suggested sites to see what I can do
about it.
