LCD Projector problems

I have an acer aspire 5680 laptop that came preinstalled with windows vista
ultimate that I use to give powerpoint 2003 presentations. My problem is
that when connected to an LCD projector the screens (LCD monitor & projector)
flicks on and off. The projector loses communications with the computer - no
input appears on the projector display and then the projector flicks several
times before recognizing the connection again. The display is fine anywhere
from 15 seconds to 5 minutes or so and then this repeats. This happens
outside of powerpoint and does not seem to be related to the software
currently running. I have tried several different projectors with similar
results. I have also tried adjusting the display resolution to 1280x800,
1024x768 and 800x600 and have turned on the presentation setting in “windows
mobility center”. I have not experienced this with windows 2000 or xp. Any
suggestions?

I'm having same problem with HP pavilion, Vista home premium and Hitachi
cp-x885.
I tried setting it to windows vista basic mode, but hten I can't get Video
to display on the projector. I have NVIDIA geforce 5200 dual port adapter. We
never had problem with XP or when we had an I-MAC connected to the projector.
I thibnk it is a Vista "aero" issue.--dick

I had exactly the same problem, so I started to search the Internet, and
found your post some weeks ago. Now I found a solution and I'd like to
share it with other crossing your post because the look for a solution.

It seems that Vista has some problems with the DDC channel within the
VGA interface (see 'Display Data Channel - Wikipedia, the free
encyclopedia' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_Data_Channel) and
also 'VGA connector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia'
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_con...#Disabling_DDC) for technical
details). So I was looking for a way to disable this channel (i.e.
blocking the circuit on PIN 12). Now I'm using a small VGA adapter plug
on which I pulled out the PIN 12 - *and everything works fine*!!

*Note: *my Vista notebook works fine with newer projectors, it were
just the older ones (especially Philips models) that caused these
problems.
