Leadtek WinFast DTV Dongle USB2 Driver Problem

Hi

Would someone please talk me through this problem?

Recently I bought a Leadtek WinFast DTV Dongle USB2 which identifies itself
as STK7700 and DIB7700 and USB\VID_0413&PID_6F00\0000000001.

I ran the enclosed CD first as per manual provided to install the drivers. I
noticed that there was no uninstall routine.

I then inserted the Dongle and got a Blue Stop Screen implicating
wfbda77.sys which I find to be one of the installed drivers. Below I append
a listing of the c:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wfb folder.
Every time I restart the computer I have this blue screen.

A search of the Leadtek website turned up more recent Vista drivers which I
have downloaded to a folder waiting for me to install them. I realise I
should have done it first - I assumed that as it was sold as Vista
Compatible it had the right drivers. There is no installer interface like
that on the CD and no instructions about using the downloaded drivers. I
append a list of the newly downloaded files.

I have attempted to remove the troublesome drivers but they are unrenamable
and undeletable and the properties are greyed out and uneditable, though I
am the only user and have administrative privileges.

How can I get rid of the old drivers?

Should I chose to do so eventually, how do I go about installing the new
drivers? - Just point the hardware to the containing folder perhaps? But it
says to install the drivers BEFORE inserting the Dongle!

And, more generally, how should I approach the problem and proceed?

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Can you get into safe mode? If so, try uninstalling the drivers from within
safe mode. To get into safe mode see
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm#03. Then go into Device
Manager to remove the device.

Thanks, Martin, that did it, though the first three times it blue screened
even in safe mode, but it got the message in the end. I had to insert the
Dongle, which blue screened immediately, so that there was actually some
hardware to remove, but then I left it connected until I eventually coaxed a
successful safe boot and then uninstalled the Dongle having also checked the
option to delete the drivers. That seems to have done the trick because the
next two normal restarts have been swift and stable. Hearty thanks - Doug
