Lemme Uupdate, Please! Error No. 0x80072EE2

I've got a Vaio laptop with Windows XP Home SP 1. I haven't been able
to get updates using the school's wireless network since last spring.

I've brought the laptop home and used the phone line and a dialup. It
still won't update. I get to the choice between Express/Custom. I
click Custom. Then I get a message that update has encountered a
problem and cannot display the updates. Error No. 0x80072EE2.

Note, that I have a desktop computer at home, using the same dialup
properties, also have Windows XP Home SP 1, and can update without
trouble.

What's going on here?

Hello Fishy: My desktop has Zone Alarm Pro and MSN. I can only get through
the error 0x80072F76 by logging on the MSN home page and entering
http://update.microsoft.com/microsof....aspx?ln=en-us
Not a good idea to disble ZA good luck

Sorry to BORE you, but I still can't get my laptop to update. I could
really use some help.

How to get past the screen where update asks if I want to do "express"
or "custom" I get that far, then get an error message. And various
suggestions of what is wrong have not yet led to a cure.

Doctor in the house?
Help me update?

You've wasted far too much time on this. Backup your personal data, format
& reinstall Windows then take care of everything on this page before using
the machine for *anything* else:
