How lengthen time "Boot Manager" stays on screen.

How do you prolong the period that the "Windows Boot Manager" stays on the
screen before switching to the next screen? The period is now a couple of
seconds and I would like to make it longer.

How do I find "Computer"? If it is from inside Vista that's a problem,
becauseVista installation has failed. I must call up Windows XP. I still
have to go through the Vista bootup screens and I have only about 2 seconds
to get my witts about myself, and to make the selection "Earlier version of
Windows". Can the screen dwell time be increased from the Vista "Boot Up"
screens themselves?

What I would really like to do is to go back to the Windows XP "Boot Up"
screens. The only way I know to do this is to reinstall Windows XP. Is
there an easier way?

Default time is 3o seconds - try the following to check:
Start>Run>msconfig>Boot tab>Check time out value.

I see. Yes, Computer, formerly known as My Computer in XP, or its
Properties, is run from within Vista. What actually is happening once the
Windows Boot Manager screen disappears? (Which you normally don't see, or
it flashes by very quickly, as you describe). It should be continuing with
Setup. Setup may reboot a few times until Vista is installed, and you
normally don't have to make a choice on that screen. It just defaults to
the correct choice...

You can usually stall the Boot Manager by pressing an arrow up or down key,
but in the midst of Setup, that may not be what you want to do, and you may
see choices that are confusing (some seemingly the same, listed more that
once; I don't think Windows, at this point, wants you to make a choice, and
I don't know what the consequences of actually making a choice will be).

Too, this is the Vista Boot Manage in play, and not XP's, which has been
replaced by Setup, since it's installing Vista, and has established Vista's
Boot Manager. Therefore XP's advanced F8 options won't be available...
