When doing an in-place upgrade from windows 2003 to 2008 or r2:

1.Do we need to procure windows 2008/r2 licenses or can the existing 2003
license be upgraded to 2008/r2? bcos i have not seen a wizard where the new
2008/r2 license key has to supplied. Please let mw know where the new
password should be given.
2.Should the license activation be done after upgrading from 2003 to 2008?
if yes, how should this be done?
3.When upgrading from 2008 to r2, do you still need to buy a new license?

Hello Lary,

1. you have to use the system properties window to enter the Windows server
2008 license key, under Windows Activation you have to enter it and activate
the server.

2. yes.

3. yes, Windows server 2008 R2 requries a new license.
