The minimum specification for the new "LifeCam Cinema" webcam is an
Intel Dual-Core 1.6 GHz.

I have a single core, 3GHz with hyperthreading. It rarely tops 25% busy
when I'm on a video call. Is that likely to be sufficient?

If (as seems possible) the video processing uses only one core, then my
3GHz should easily outperform one core of a Dual-core 1.6 GHz

I'm not looking for a legally binding answer, that would inevitably be
"no", but reasonable guesses. It's not the end of the world if I get one
and it doesn't perform well; I just have to persuade my manager to
upgrade my PC. How difficult can that be?

Greetings Steve,

My guess would be that you might need dual core to do some some of the 720p stuff they're
touting, but for Messenger, which operates at a much smaller resolution, I'm sure it'll be
fine.

I'm actually planning on getting one myself, so I'll happily test it on similar hardware then
and let you know if you like.

Excellent, thank you. I presume there is nothing country-specific about
the hardware; it gets its power from the USB socket, so no difference there.

I'm thinking of importing from the US or Canada; with the IT exchange
rate of $1 = £1 it's too tempting to miss. Mind you, with the IT
exchange rate between the UK and China it's even more tempting to get it
from China (an IBM mouse which cost me £27 in the UK is available from
China for ~ £2. Mine was made in China anyway.)

Hi,

Yeah you should be able to get it from where ever you like. You're lucky with the exchange
rate.

I'm really looking forward to seeing just what sort of image this thing puts out. All the
brand name's have been putting out such outrageous claims for so long, and always end up
disappointing me.
