LifeCam Initialization Error

I bought a Microsoft LifeCam VX 6000. It plugs into a 2.0 USB port. I run
Live Messenger v8.1. OS is Windows Vista Ultimate.

When I tried to start up the LifeCam a dark grey screen comes up which says
"Initialization error." Can't do anything with it after that.

Using Live Messenger I can access the video set up and see my picture in
video and hear sounds etc.

I installed the updated driver (LifeCam 1.3) from Microsoft update.

Anyone have a solution to this problem so I can use the webcam?
