I just went to my Windows Update History, via Help & Support. The list
of updates was displayed OK, such as the first entry:
Update for Windows XP (KB932823) 29 May 2008

But clicking any of those links to see a proper description just opens
my browser to a blank page. The URL shown is:
http://www.update.microsoft.com/wind...enter&ln=en-us
What's happening here please?

Also, a couple of other points:
1) What is the fastest way of reaching the Windows Update site please?
2) Where can I change the settings so that I am offered the option of
installing, rather than it being done totally automatically, like that
one above?

Long story short, see the CAUSE section of
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932823. Unless Japanese IME is your default
keyboard layout (unlikely), you don't need to install this update and can
"hide" it.

PS: That linked page is blank here, too.

A1. Equally fast:

=> http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com or

=> Start | Windows Update or

=> IE Tools | Windows Update.

A2. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306525
