list is the default

List is the default. How does one change the default to details?

Use the View button to change to Details and it will default to Details
whenever you go to the folder.

That does not work with certain windows. For example, if one selects "open"
under Windows Media Player, a window opens and list is always selected no
matter what I do.

Is there a registry setting I could change?

I don't have an explanation because when I view the WMP folder I can choose
any view.
