A Little Something To Give You A Chuckle

Just picked up a new system running Vista 64 bit. This is my first
experience with Vista and I'm real disappointed at the speed, or should I
say, lack of. That's not what this post is about. What I'm experiencing
<hearing> is a series of knocks, as if someone is lightly knocking on a
door. I kid you not. This happens maybe twice every half hour. I checked
the default sound scheme and found nothing that matches it. Is it time for
a new hearing aid, brain enema, etc.?

Don't pick a fight with an old man.
If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

Try 4 or 5 beers and see if you still hear it.

If your hard disk is having problems you may hear a thunk or thunk-thunk as
the head homes to try to recover from an error.
Your system may have a utility to monitor the disks 'SMART' (hard disk
monitoring) reporting.

You could turn off/unplug your speakers to make sure of source of the sound.

I'd crank the volume and leave it for a bit until you hear the sound
again - if it's louder, it's software; if not, something's actually
clunking somewhere.

Not at the speed these fans are spinning. I swear it sounds like someone
knocking at a door.

Do you have an IM program running, like ICQ, AIM, Messenger? Those have
sound effects.
Also check the system sounds, to see if one of them is the culprit. Start -
Control Panel - Sound - Sounds

Been there, done that. Definitely coming from the speakers. It sounds like
AIM when someone comes online, but I have no gabbing programs installed.

I'd crank the volume and leave it for a bit until you hear the sound
again - if it's louder, it's software; if not, something's actually
clunking somewhere.

Then it's definitely software. Way louder with the sound cranked up. This
is driving me nuts
