Live Calendar Beta Languages and Other Errors

When I log into the Live Calendar Beta, my default language is set to
Portuguese. I have reset it to english, but sometimes when I log back in, it
is again set to Portuguese.

Also: I am commonly getting an error ("Live Calendar is not available right
now, please make sure you're connected to the Internet") or no response
(click 'Edit Event', nothing happens).

Are these expected behaviors during the public 'Beta'? These issues
basically make Live Calendar a no go for me right now.

Apparently you are expected to indicate your location in your Live ID profile.
Once you do that you won't get random guesses about it. ; )
