Howdy all

Just as title says, I am using Live Messenger 2009, latest version
When i click on the emotes or winks tab the window will freeze for som
time. Like the program hangs or something. Sometimes it will come bac
if i wait a while, other times i have to use task manager to clos
messenger and restart it

Is there a workaround for this problem?

Pl

Greetings,

Well I've not heard of this problem precisely but it should be relatively easy to track down
using process of elimination.
Out of curiosity though, do you have a large number of emoticons or winks?

So to begin to at least eliminate some possibilites, shut down Messenger and then navigate to
one of the following folders;
On XP:
\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Messenger\LiveID\ObjectStore
and on Vista:
\Users\username\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Messenger\ LiveID\ObjectStore

Where username is your Windows username and LiveID is your Windows Live ID e-mail address.

Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden by default, to see them simply press the
Alt key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools,
then Folder Options, then the View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'.
After click OK, they should appear with the other folders.

Once you're there, rename the Winks3 and CustomEmoticons folders (say OldWinks3 and
OldCustomEmoticons, respectfully). Restart Messenger, sign in and then try it now. If it
works, sign out again and move a few of the files from the "old" folders to the newly created
ones. Sign in again and see what happens. I'm sure you see where this is going, so see how
far you get. Note any repeats you get will just be the default ones, you can safely move
them overtop or ignore them.

Thank you for the very thorough reply Jonathan. I did just as you sai
and a bit more. I uninstalled Live 2009, deleted the Wink3 an
CustomEmoticons folders. I then re-installed Live 2009.

Sadly the problem persist. My very first conversation, I clicked th
emotes tab at bottom of page, Live 2009 locks up. Oddly while it
locked, the other person was still sending me messages, I couldnt se
them but i could here the received new message tone. And i could ge
messages from other people, but i couldnt alt-tab to there window..

I have the same problem. I already made those steps and nothing. Windows 7
says that is a problem of flash player, i dont think so..... but i hope to
find the solution. In some sites says that just reducing the hardware
acceleration of the display card will do. I already made that but nothing
too.
