Live Messenger 2009 disconnects immediately upon connecting

I've just updated to Live Messenger 2009, much to my dismay it may seem.

It will connect, display my list of contacts for about 2 seconds, and then
disconnect. I have not succeeded in getting it to stay connected.

Now, for a bit of info about the environment. I'm running on XP Professional
SP2. I'm behind the company proxy and firewall, and while this has always
crippled my Messenger connection to some degree (earlier versions would stay
connected, but every once in a while stop recieving and delivering messages,
the solution for which was logging off and then back on) I've at least been
able to stay logged in.

My question is, is this something that can be fixed by me, or has the way
Live Messenger 2009 connects to the network changed in such a way that the
firewall now disables the application completely?

I still don't have a solution.
Other MSN clients stay online, only WLM disconnects.
I haven't changed anything on my system, though i'm using wireless internet,
I don't know what's happening at the other end.
If there's any solution, please notify me.

I had the same problem right after I created a Group. Thanks Uglee for the
login as offline tip. I logged in as offline and deleted the Group and now
WLM works fine.

I am using Window Live Messenger 14.0.8089.726, Vista 64.
