Could you elaborate a little on what "shutting down" means? I'm going to assume you mean the
application just appears to die with no error message and if you hover your mouse over the
notification area icon, it disappears too (indicating the application is gone)?
That assumed, it's difficult to immediately say what the problem is. What I can tell you is
that firewall rules aren't going to kill off the application -- features in
antivirus/internet security software that are directly interfacing with Messenger can
however. I've never heard anything about F-Secure causing any problems before though.
As a test, you may want to make another Windows user account, switch over to that account and
try Messenger there. That will at least identify whether you have a problem within something
installed in Windows itself, or just merely a problem within your user account.
