LIVE Messenger 2009 Login error and shutdown

I have been trying to start Live Messenger, and the program keeps shutting
down whenever I log in.

They PC says the error is with my virus program, and I changed that to allow
live messenger through, but I get the same message. As far as I can tell it
is to do with my virus program (F-Secure). But I have changed my firewall
rules.

I have been going in circles with all the help files which keep sending me
in a circle.

I would appreciate any help.

GF

Greetings,

Could you elaborate a little on what "shutting down" means? I'm going to assume you mean the
application just appears to die with no error message and if you hover your mouse over the
notification area icon, it disappears too (indicating the application is gone)?

That assumed, it's difficult to immediately say what the problem is. What I can tell you is
that firewall rules aren't going to kill off the application -- features in
antivirus/internet security software that are directly interfacing with Messenger can
however. I've never heard anything about F-Secure causing any problems before though.

As a test, you may want to make another Windows user account, switch over to that account and
try Messenger there. That will at least identify whether you have a problem within something
installed in Windows itself, or just merely a problem within your user account.

Jonathan Kay, thank you for responding to my question.

"Shutting down" actually means "Not working" the Windows Live
Communication program stops working. There are no "error messages". But
Windows Solutions says the problem is with my virus software F-secure.

I will try creating another user account, to see if that works. But I think
it has something to do with F-seure, firewall, and information exchange.

Messenger actually says that I'm not connect to .NET, and everytime I try to
do that (as part of Login, the application stops working)

Again thank you for you response.

MY SOLUTION:

My solution was to disable my internet dial-up. (I have a cable modem with
ethernet connection). Once the dial up control was disabled I was able to
log on to Windos Live Messenger easily. And I have had no problem since.

I had to call and chat with my internet provider to find this brainlessly
simple solution.

I hope it helps.

Greetings to all...

I'm Ziad..well i have just started to experience a new type of bugs in the new messenger!!
I have my e-mail address as "".

Whenever i put my password, it logs in and shows me the messenger as it opens but after sometimes while displaying me the home page and the offline messages in my task bar below..it automatically disappears from the screen and the task bar too

For instance i have over 9000 unread mails and loads from facebook and randoms too. I wanted to know the exact problem to this as i even tested a new e-mail address of mine and it works!!!

Why my old mail address is not working??? Is it due to viruses on msn or due to loads of mails in my account?? Help me please?? What can i do to filter all these viruses??

Regards Ziad,
