Live Messenger 8.0.0812 and Yahoo Mail Interopeability

I was using MSN Messenger 7.5, I uninstalled it before installing Live
Messenger 8.0.0812. Since then I have several contacts listed under
"Non-Instant Messaging Contacts" group. ALL these contacts are listed as
having Yahoo mail. If I'm not mistaken, Live Messenger 8.0.0812 interoperates
with Yahoo Mail. Hence, why can't I chat with these contacts (who are using
Yahoo Mail) via Live Messenger?

Thank you.

Don't know if its related, but I have just tried to link to my Yahoo mail
account via Windows Mail Live Desktop. It says it cant as it only links to
Yahoo Mail Plus accounts...unless I'm reading it wrong.

It would appear that you have to pay for YMP....so the can "go jump" if they
think I'm paying for it.

Greetings,

Actually it's Yahoo Messenger that the contacts interopt with. However, in order for it to
work you need to be signed up here:
http://ideas.live.com/programpage.as...c-685ee3e858fe
(the Try it link) and the contacts in question need to be using the latest beta of Yahoo
Messenger.

The contacts you're seeing under this group are just contacts from your Hotmail address book.

Never mind, I managed to find the solution myself. What I did: under
"Non-Instant Messaging Contacts" group, right click contact, edit contact,
type in their "Instant Messaging Address" (Yahoo Mail), select group (e.g.
Family). I'm aware that the contact in question also needs to be using the
latest beta of Yahoo Messenger.

I'm surprised that Live Messenger 8.0.0812 is not smart enough to pickup the
Yahoo Mail addresses even though they are listed in my Hotmail contact list
(under personal email). Maybe this is done on purpose?

I've found what I believe to be a quircky bug in the new Yahoo-support!

I've had a miscrosoft passport that's based on my yahoo mail-account
(*****@yahoo.com) for a very long time, and this has always worked fine.

The problem is that now that they've put support for yahoo messenger into LIVE
messenger the LIVE messenger that my contacts are using checks the yahoo
server (I think) to see if I'm online with yahoo-messenger which I'm NOT
obviously (!!!) because I've never had a yahoo messenger account, and never
will get a yahoo messenger account.

The problem is that I now always appear to be offline even when I'm online!
I hope MS will fix this ASAP!
