Live Messenger 8.1 Error 81000378

Why has there been no definative resolution to this connectivity issue.
ERROR: 81000378 Can not connect to Messenger Contact List unAvailable.
Not a timout issue this has been going on for months. slowly, all PC's at
work will be down and can't connect with off-site personnel. Microsoft get
off your A$$es

check your network settings, the issue only occurs because its isolated to
you and other who don't have thier networks setup properly.

I seem to get this error randomly every time I install vista. I have found a
solution that works for me everytime i get the error code "81000378" when
signing into live messenger.

I simply goto http://webmessenger.msn.com/ and log onto messenger there,
then close that and logon via Windows Live Messenger, and viola! No errors.

What causes this problem, I'm not sure, but this solution works for me, and
I thought I'd post it here so others can see. It is frustrating not being
able to find solutions to problems such as this.

What exactly could be wrong with the network setup to get this message up?
Ive recently setup a wireless connection and MSN gets this error message on
the wireless machine. However I have a machine connected to the router via a
cable and that works fine.

This is easy to say, but if Microsoft expects people like us to use MSN at
work they need to find a way around this. I'm not about to ask AT&T to
modify their network settings so we can continue to use MSN to communicate
with our teammates across the world. Our network settings are set for
security reasons and won't be changed for the purposes of MSN.

It would be fine if Microsoft didn't suddenly force us to upgrade instead of
allowing us to continue using an older version. MSN Messenger 7.4 worked
fine with our current network settings.

I just found out something that seems to work sometimes. If u have ur
messenger set to remember you, have it forget you, then close messenger, and
try to sing in again. I tried everything i could think of and then this
worked 4 me

I tried this and same result as everything else. When it first happened; I
simply typed in Error code and every single thing I can do that showed, I
did. and still nothing. Will post if and when I solve my problem.

I had this problem yesterday, I tried EVERYTHING I could find online and
nothing worked. I used Windows Messenger after that. Just tried signing in,
no problems. Sometimes, you just have to let it take it's course.
