Live Messenger Auto-Login

The oddest thing...

If I lock my workstation without signing out of Live Messenger, and then
simply move the mouse or hit a key on the keyboard a few hours later
(without actually signing back on to Windows), other contacts see me as
coming back online.

I would think you would have to log back in to Windows (I'm running Vista
with Live Messenger 8.1), but evidently that's not the case. Live Messenger
"wakes up" even though I don't log back on.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Just to clarify, you're hitting Win-L, then walking away, and then coming back?

Or, you're walking away, screen saver kicks in, and then locks your workstation when you come
back?
