Live Messenger Crash when using Sharing Folders (now with build 812)

I experienced this problem when using the Live Messenger beta which led me
to remove the beta and go back to 7.5. Since the version 8.0 release the
problem seemed to disappear until about a week or two ago. I am
experiencing the
following problem:

When Sharing Folders are being updated (by another contact for an existing
folder) my system will blue screen and reboot. I have since set the
"automatically restart" option to disabled so I can get some more
information from the incident, but is anyone else experiencing this?

I saw a post on a blog the other day regarding this as an issue with the
Beta and
that deleting Messenger and Windows Live Contacts folders, but this did not
correct the problem with the release version.

I was running build 8.0.0792.00 of Live Messenger and have now upgradd to
build 812 and continue to have the problem. All current updates and
hotfixes have been applied (XP SP2). My most recent BSOD came after running
812 with Sharing Folders on, syncing ok and I thought it had been resolved,
but I launched Outlook 2k3 and I got the BSOD directly after authenticating
to our Exchange Server (RPC over HTTP).

I have since tried to look at the Save Dump errors with no luck - the STOP
error condititions are not consistent.

More info as I find it, thanks,

Brad Turner, MIIS MVP

It Sharing Folders feature works fine for me. It never crached. Just tried
it and it's ok. (I'm also using the last version)

Hi,

I have the same exact problem. (also with 812)

I enabled my Sharing Folders, and when I tried to view the shared files
between me and my friend (he lives in the UK ... but same problem with other
people here in North America too), and the computer crashes and reboots
(after it says "Synching..." in the status bar of the Sharing Folders window)

The Sharing Folders idea is really good, unfortunately it's crashing my
computer so I had to disable it

Thnx for any help in advance

The last time we ran into this issue, it had to do with AV integration and
interoperability between different virus scanners. Do you guys have the AV
scanning turned on?

thanks

Yes, McAfee VirusScan v11, and previously v8. Should I attempt to try and
exclude the sync directory or is there more to it than that?

I tried to limit McAfee 11 by turning of the "IM Virus Protection" feature,
but it still blue-screened with Shared Folders enabled. Also, I cannot find
a way in the commerical McAfee to exclude files or folders from being
scanned - the Enterprise version allowed this.
