Live Messenger disconnects

I have live installed, and it seems to always disconnect. I thought it was
the preloaded norton causing it, but with norton removed, it still
disconnects. Most of the time, i just have to reconnect, but sometimes it
says it cannot connect, and gives an error code. Any ideas?

Greetings Kris,

At this point there are a number of server issues happening at the moment, so the error codes
can probably just be ignored if you can hit Retry and get back on.

Are you using a router of any kind? If so, you may want to look and see if there's an update
to the router's firmware from the manufacturer as usually they correct issues like that
there.

Greetings Kris,

Just an addition to Jonathan Kay's reply regarding firmware, be careful when
installing beta firmware, as it can cause many problems with your router.
Only install stable firmware versions.

Hi,

Actually, the released firmware is continually buggy from D-Link, Linksys, Netgear and
others. Sometimes the betas work better.

Just use what works, it doesn't matter if it has the beta tag. They always let you downgrade
anyway.

I had messenger before, not sure the version, but was fairly recent, and it
was fine. Seem to be issue with live. Does that help narrow it down, or is
it possible the firmware was fine with old messenger, and not live.

Hi Kris,

The protocol has changed significantly on WLM. If a router has say, an ALG or anything
similar, it can easily be broken with new releases.

Greetings,

Are you on a wireless router? If so, there may be interference between your
computer, and your wireless router.

Hi,

Is it a WRT54G out of any chance? If so, what you're describing is a known issue with some
of the revisions (sorry, I do not remember which) that was fixed with a firmware update.
