Live Messenger does not connect

Hello,

Live Messenger 8.1.0178.00 has been working fine for me. Then from
yesterday onwards, I cannot connect. My computer hasn't been changed in any
ways and it just can't connect. And using the troubleshooting doesn't help
at all. The error code is 81000306.

What could be the problem and how can I solve it?

I'm using winxpsp2. I'm behind a proxy and it's been connecting fine all
along. I think live messenger has prompted me to update a few days ago
though, and I've updated it accordingly.

Herbert

Greetings,

Generally, what you're describing is usually some sort of outage on the service itself,
usually localized to a small number of accounts.

I'd simply try again later. Additionally, although sounding ridiculous, a reboot may be
helpful.

Just for your information, I don't have trouble at home signing in using msn
messenger on a win98se machine. Now I'm on an office machine.

And I notice that if I quit live messenger and then run it again from the
start menu, I will be able to sign in, but will be signed off automatically
after around 5 minutes. So it's still basically unusable.

Hi to all

I am expericencing the same problem! Live Messenger 8.1 (Built 8.1.0178.00)
does not connect anymore since yesterday ... Version 8.0 (Built 8.0.0792.00)
works perfectly .....

V8.1 works at home ... not in the office (we are below a checkpoint firewall
- all port in exit are open)

Any idea ??????

Running into the same issue with Live Messenger 8.1 (Built 8.1.0178.00). At
home my laptop works just fine. At work the same laptop will not connect.
Other users at work running the same version as me are not having an issue,
others are. Trillian, no problem. Using web messenger to fill the void.

Same problem here. Live Messenger 8.1 (Built 8.1.0178.00) is unable to
connect. This seems to be a problem on all of our computers in the office. It
seems this has been going on for about a week or so. Computers running older
builds connect fine.

As a workaround, I now uninstalled Live messenger 8.1, and installed 8.0
build 8.0.0812, and everything works fine now. Guess I'll be using this
version until someone figures out whats going on.

What kind of enterprise firewall is your company running? I.E. Cisco PIX,
Checkpoint, etc.

Same problem. Stoped working last week. Working with 8.0 and not with 8.1.
It's the same for all 30 client's at the office.
We are using Checkpoint firewall, and we have not made any changes to it.

I am also running Checkpoint. I haven't made any changes but MSN Messenger
8.1 hasn't been working for about a week now. I see no drops in the logs and
have even disabled SmartDefense but still no go. Windows Live Messenger 8.0
seems to work fine. I've been asking about corporate/enterprise firewalls
ever since I read this thread here..

http://lists.virus.org/fw1-0704/msg00065.html

Could others respond with what kind of firewall they are behind when having
this problem? I would like to have more then 2-3 people confirm this before
opening a case with Checkpoint. Especially since i have no real hard evidence
in the form of logs etc.

Herbert Chan?, Jonathan Kay?, Raymond, Anrea Malagnini? Can you please
respond with what kind of firewall you are behind? Thanks.
