Hi there,

Uber bug here, try sending the following messages to anyone on MSN
version 8.1.0178.00

http://www.microsoft.com/reallysafew...fedownload.php << wont
send

http://www.reallynastywebsite/destroyyourpc.php < will send

"Hey man, could you just upload the new version of download.php to the
ftp site for me?" << wont send

....

Am I the only one who finds this absolutely rediculous?

Microsoft! Stop filtering my messages, if you mess with peoples
communications so much they will only stop trusting you, simple as that.

Nick.

Seems it's been around since version 7...

First time I have come across it.

Still, it's completely stupid, I certainly stick by that opinion.

It may be 'ridiculous', or it may not be. But I find 'rediculous', to be a
'ridiculous' way to spell 'ridiculous'. So does my spelling checker.

Greetings Nick,

This is by design to stop viruses and worms from spreading through the Messenger system.

I'm not a big fan of it either, but apparently it works.

Hi Jonathan,

Sorry but I think It has been handled very poorly. If it isn't a link
then why filter it? Why not display a message to the user saying that their
message was not sent as it contained "xxx"? Sending someone "download.php"
in an msn message will not transmit a virus, nor will sending
http://www.freeviruses.com/download.php. Most applications just pop up a
warning and say tell you that you are about to be taken to a website that
could be dangerous.

But anyways, I'm not suggesting that I know all about software. I just
got extremely frustrated whilst trying to have a conversation with someone
who didn't even know that I was trying to send them messages with a link in,
which may I add was completely harmless. It would also explain allot of
conversations I have had on MSN in in the past that have got confused.

Nick.

Hi Nick,

It looks for a specific text string, and if it sees it, drops the message entirely. I might
(guessing) be done so simply for performance reasons.

Additionally the NAK ("message could not be sent..") is probably not as to avoid flooding the
infected client with messages as most of the viruses/worms in question will try to send to
the entire contact list at once. By just dropping the messages, it probably also doesn't hit
the Messenger server's flood protection features.
