Live Messenger immediate crash

My brother in law brought me his laptop to get it all setup for him (never
had a pc before) and I figured that I would have him use Windows Live
Messenger as this is my main chat application. I installed it and tried to
login, and it immediately crashed. When I reboot into safe mode it works
just fine. Even if I disable the wireless and not get online as soon as it
loads it crashes. I uninstalled it, rebooted and then reinstalled. No luck.
Its an Acer Laptop, brand new running Vista Home Basic.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jim

Hi,

right click on the messenger icon and select properties then select security
and select ' run as administrator'.
There seems to be a problem with Vista and messenger getting along with each
other at the moment but the above solution worked for me.

If it's crashing straight after signing in then the priblem is the Live
Messenger page loading due to errors in the java scripting. He'll need to
disable the page loading when Messenger starts,2 ways to do that are 1. get
prompt for activX in IE7 settings and 2. uninstall java runtime, disable that
page loading and reinstall Java Runtime.
