Hi all,

I am facing difficulties with latest MSN Messenger. After it completes
100% installation, the Messenger fails to load/start and gives an error
hr:0x80190193. Google hans't been of much helps as it shows such an error
pertaining to WSUS Server error. Can someone please throw light on this?

TIA,

Lino

Greetings Lino,

This is when you are attempting to sign in I assume? This code indicates that there's a HTTPS
error, which Messenger uses for authentication with the service.

Since Messenger utilizes Internet Explorer for this, you can simply use IE to determine the
problem. To do so, pop open IE and head over to https://account.live.com. You should see
any sort of error right away.

On a basic level of troubleshooting, make sure that the date and time of the PC are set
correctly. Although the date/time problem is usually another error and I very much suspect
something else is going on.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks indeed for the reply.
After I click the Download button and the installation completes 100%
the error pops up stating hr:0x80190193. Upon clicking for more help, the
screen says the cause of this error is unknown. Apparently, the
installation fails. This happens on all PCs having Vista. Surprisingly,
the transition/upgrade from MSN in WinXP is smooth. No issues.
Even on fresh installation of Vista same error comes up.

Regards,
Lino

Hi,

It's difficult to say based on your description whether or not Messenger is at fault or the
installer. As a test, it might be worth doing a manual install of Messenger.

To do so download and run the MSI file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/w3qfe/wlm.asp

If that installs without an error (it'll just install and disappear if it's successful), then
install the Communications Platform:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/red...e/contacts.asp

If that installs correctly, you can now use Messenger by running it from the Start menu,
Windows Live folder.

See how far you can get before encountering a problem.
