Live Messenger Issues

I am having issues with Live Messenger, upon starting it says "Live
Messenger: Failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). I have looked at
various threads and they all point to some Sony Sound Filter however i do not
have a sony pc and there are no applications installed associated with this.
This issue has been ongoing for months and is causing a real headache as i
cannot use Messenger Live to friends etc.

Any advice would be appreciated, as mentioned i have scoured the internet
and forums and they all point to the sony software which i do not have
installed.
