Hi,

Yes, the main contact list will still, the X in the user tile window kills it as you well
know.

What do you think of that anyway? I initially thought it was okay, but after using 7 for
ages, I think it would make more sense if it were just the main window. I'm guessing the two
window thing doesn't pass usability tests very well based on my observations of others.

On my installation of Windows 7 RC1, Messenger minimizes to the taskbar, not
the tray (even when pressing the X). I found this article that helps resolve
that
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/0...-in-windows-7/

Basically, you run Live Messenger in Vista compatability mode, and it goes
to the tray. (You have to change the properties on the .exe file, the guide
has the details).

This is great, but only if you have Vista - what about XP?

Hi,

I'm not sure what you're referring to. The problem here is with Windows 7 - in Vista and XP
it will operate normally.

Do the following step to minimize windows live messenger to system tray in
windows 7:
Exit windows live messenger by right click on it in task bar.
Go to Start ------ All Programs ------ Windows Live
Right Click on Windows Live Messenger go to Properties, then Compatibility,
Change Compatibility mode:
Check Run this program in compatibility mode for:
and select Windows Vista.
Click apply and ok now you can see windows live messenger minimize to system
tray ..
Good Luck ..

I have Win7 and I use Live Mail.
I basically have the same problem discussed - minimizing WLM minimizes it to
the taskbar, and closing it closes it completely (doesn't minimize to tray).
I'd like to be able to minimize to tray and make it go away from the taskbar.
I disabled some Aero features etc. (to save CPU/RAM)

Thanks
