Live Messenger Sign In Problems

when I go to sign into windows live messenger, i get the icon that spins for
about 10 seconds or so, then it goes right back to the enter user / password
and the sign in button. It doesnt matter who tries to sign it, it wont do
it. I did notice if I enter the incorrect password, it WILL give an error,
saying wrong password. But when correct info is entered, it just goes back
to the sign in page with no error message.

this is a new computer with fresh install of XP, all updates run, nothing
critical left to download. Just downloaded Live Messenger. even tried
unstalling and reinstalling. This is on a dial up connection, no hardware
router, etc. No antivirus or fire wall stuff on the computer.

Thanks

Greetings Brenda,

I don't have a specific solution for you, however, I can tell you that I've seen this exact
problem on dialup before too.

That said, what speed is the dialup connection you're trying?

dialup connects at 48,000 according to the icons at bottom of the screen.

if this is an issue with this version, any way for me to get an older
version that WILL work?

Hi Brenda,

Interesting. I meant to write it in my earlier message, but it's only low speed connections
I've seen this problem. That is, slower speeds than 48k.

To answer your question, absolutely. Just head over to Add or Remove Programs/Programs and
Features in the Control Panel, find Windows Live Essentials and install Messenger from the
applet presented there.

You can then install the prior version by just downloading and running this Microsoft
Installer (MSI) file:

After that you'll find the 8.5 (2008) release on your start menu, ready to use.
